Personal Notes:

Md Nasrudin Md Akhir is an Associate Professor at University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He was Deputy Dean (Research and Development) of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences from 2009 to 2010; Head of the Department of East Asian Studies from 2004 to 2009; and Coordinator for the Japan Studies Program from 1994 to 2000. As Coordinator, he was responsible for developing the Japan Studies Program in the University of Malaya which was established in 1993. He was Executive Director of the Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya from May 2010 until his recent return to the Department of East Asian Studies. From 1998 to 2012, he was Secretary General of the Malaysian Association of Japanese Studies (MAJAS) and from 2012 he has been advisor to MAJAS. He has been a member in the Steering Committee of the Japanese Studies Association in ASEAN representing Malaysia since 2006. His main research interests include Japan’s foreign policy, Malaysia–Korea Relations and East Asian international relations. His ongoing research projects cover the following topics: 1. From Medieval Malacca-Ryukyu Connections to Pre-Independence Malaysia, and 2. Japanese in Johor, 1880s-1945. He is the author and editor of 10 books and numerous academic articles published locally and internationally.
